Governor's Island is a fabulous NYC experience that is unique and rather?  "un NYC"?  It provides an experience that is off the beaten path, is fresh and a? wonderful outing that starts as soon as you board the ferry.?  It feels like you are ambling through a small town yet there you are those fabulous views of the NYC skyline. It has open fields, bike paths and even a beach.

Great for families because the kids can run free is a fabulous bucolic setting. The price is right ( no charge at all)?  You can take a wonderful informative tour or just veg out.

It is easy to get to by public transportation ( #1 train to the last stop- South Ferry is the most direct? )
